Investigative Scenario:
Cargo Theft & Supply Chain Loss
A logistics company experienced recurring shipment losses and suspected diversion. Investigators examined shipment records, access logs, and witness accounts to identify patterns, reconstruct shipment movements, and assess possible internal involvement. The investigation focused on discrepancies at key transfer points, individuals with access to affected shipments, and weaknesses in shipment verification. Findings were documented to support corrective action and potential referral to law enforcement.
Outcome:

Presented on the connection between cybersecurity vulnerabilities and cargo theft, examining how criminals can exploit compromised accounts, business information, and weaknesses in shipment verification to facilitate theft and diversion. Discussed the importance of coordination among security, operations, and IT teams, with an emphasis on recognizing suspicious activity, verifying changes to shipment instructions, and protecting sensitive logistics information.

Industry leaders gained practical guidance for recognizing cyber-enabled cargo theft risks and strengthening shipment verification and internal coordination.
About Greg Miceli
I founded Miceli Strategy & Risk Advisors after more than 20 years as an FBI Special Agent. My career included investigations involving organized crime, financial fraud, public corruption, insider threats, and cargo theft across the United States and abroad.
I developed investigative strategies, conducted interviews, assessed source information, and coordinated with domestic and international partners. I also trained and mentored agents, analysts, and law enforcement professionals.
Today, I bring that experience to investigations and practical training for businesses, attorneys, and organizations. My approach emphasizes thorough preparation, discretion, and clear communication.
Beyond my professional work, I founded a nonprofit supporting families of children with rare genetic conditions and continue to coach youth sports.
